Job description: Veterinary Nurse RVN 

Location: Village Vets Coolock & Cabra

Reports to: Head Nurse & Lead Vet 

Salary: €34,000 – €38,000 DOE

Our Coolock branch joined as a proud member of the Village Vets family in 2016 and is situated inside the Maxi Zoo pet shop. We have two consulting rooms, separate dog and cat wards, a surgical theatre, diagnostic facilities including an x-ray room, and a dental room. We have a light and comfortable reception area, and we’re passionate about fear-free techniques to help make every one of our patients’ visits to see us as comfortable as possible.

Our Cabra branch opened as a proud member of the Village Vets family in 1996, having previously spent time as a poodle parlour! We have three consult rooms, two surgery theatres, dental suite, separate dog and cat wards, an in-house lab, a scanning room and diagnostic facilities including digital x-ray, ultrasound and dental x-ray.

As a valued RVN, you’ll play a key role in upholding the standards and values of Village Vets and the Veterinary Council of Ireland, ensuring unparalleled care for our patients, fostering excellent relationships with colleagues, and delivering outstanding customer service. You’ll also contribute to the smooth and efficient operation of the clinic, guided by our experienced head nurse and lead vet. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist veterinary surgeon in veterinary procedures including anaesthetics and surgical operations. 
  • Administer treatments (e.g. injections, medication, fluid therapy, dressing, first aid, euthanasia) as directed by the veterinary surgeon and where permitted, undertake minor surgical procedures. 
  • Nurse and care for patients to the standard upheld by Village Vets. 
  • Undertake general cleaning duties throughout the clinic including equipment, animal quarters to a level acceptable to the Village Vets standards. 
  • Ensure medications prescribed are correctly administered to patients, oversee the safe handling of drugs and maintain up to date and accurate clinical records  
  • Assist with front of house duties and understand procedures involved in maintaining an efficient friendly reception.  
  • Maintain an account of stock ensuring usage within shelf life in order to prevent wastage of stock. 
  • Provide appropriate veterinary training to all staff in order to assist with best practice measures. 
  • Promote the Pet Health Plans and Pet Insurance to all clients to facilitate the highest level of veterinary care.   
  • Carry out any ad hoc Veterinary or administrative duties that may arise through the normal course of the day within the clinic or as advised by head nurse/area manager. 
  • Complete all tasks, duties and procedures efficiently and accurately. 
  • Be responsible for creating and maintaining an outstanding client experience throughout the whole team. 

 

While at work all staff are required to take care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts and omissions & co-operate with Village Vets policies and procedures.

  • Current registration with VCI 
  • Further qualification specific to VN training 
Experience & Job Knowledge

  • Previous experience of small animal veterinary practice
