Our Veterinary Dentistry service is led by Lorraine Egan MVB PgC (Small Animal Dentistry & Oral Surgery) and Maria João DVM a dedicated and highly skilled clinicians in the field of veterinary oral health.
Lorraine graduated from UCD in 2009 and went on to complete her Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Dentistry and Oral Surgery in 2022. She has since pursued further training in veterinary endodontics through the European School for Advanced Veterinary Studies (ESAVS), enhancing her expertise in advanced dental procedures.
In addition to her clinical work, Lorraine is passionate about education and plays an active role in teaching. She delivers the veterinary dentistry module to undergraduate MVB students at UCD, helping to shape the next generation of veterinary professionals.
Lorraine is currently on maternity leave.
Maria João graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Lisbon in 2018 and has been working in Ireland since then. She is currently completing a Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Dentistry and Oral Surgery with Improve International (UK), with all taught modules completed and final examinations scheduled for May 2026. Alongside this, she is undertaking the Advanced Veterinary Practice (AVP) Certificate with Harper Adams University, which she expects to complete in July 2026.
Maria has a strong clinical background in both equine and small animal medicine, with her current focus firmly on small animal practice. Over the past five years, she has worked exclusively in this area, developing advanced skills in dental diagnostics, including intra-oral radiography, and complex dental and oral surgical procedures. She is passionate about the impact dental health has on patient comfort and overall quality of life and is committed to providing a high standard of dental care for her patients.
