Our Veterinary Dentistry service is led by Lorraine Egan MVB PgC (Small Animal Dentistry & Oral Surgery), a dedicated and highly skilled clinician in the field of veterinary oral health.

Lorraine graduated from UCD in 2009 and went on to complete her Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Dentistry and Oral Surgery in 2022. She has since pursued further training in veterinary endodontics through the European School for Advanced Veterinary Studies (ESAVS), enhancing her expertise in advanced dental procedures.

In addition to her clinical work, Lorraine is passionate about education and plays an active role in teaching. She delivers the veterinary dentistry module to undergraduate MVB students at UCD, helping to shape the next generation of veterinary professionals.

Services

Our Ashbourne branch joined the Village Vets family in 2008 and we moved to our shiny new site in 2024, which is well equipped with modern facilities including an in-house laboratory, diagnostic equipment such as x-rays, dental x-rays and ultrasonography, four consult rooms and two surgical theatres.

We provide the following services;

  • Exodontia – challenging extractions, e.g. mandibular canines in high-risk jaw fracture cases
  • Periodontitis treatment including periodontal surgery of selected cases (root planing)
  • Surgical repair of oral nasal fistulas
  • Investigation and treatment of orofacial swelling and tooth associated abscesses
  • Treatment of Feline chronic gingivostomatitis or tooth resorption
  • Endodontic treatment: Root canal treatment, vital pulp therapy, crown shortening (treatment of base narrow canines)
  • Restorations – Fracture repair (bonded sealants), caries treatment
  • Odontoplasty – reshape tooth if causing soft tissue trauma
  • Evaluation of malocclusion and orthodontic assessment
  • Jaw fractures repair using non-invasive intraoral splinting techniques
  • Oral surgery – tumour assessment, mass removal, gingivectomy
