Advanced Dental Care for Pets

About

Your pet’s dental health is a vital component of their overall well-being. At Village Vets, we provide comprehensive dental care that helps maintain strong teeth and healthy gums, ensuring your pet remains comfortable, energetic, and free from oral pain. Dental disease is one of the most common health issues in pets, often going unnoticed until it causes serious discomfort or systemic problems.

Without regular dental care, plaque and tartar can accumulate, leading to gum inflammation (gingivitis), tooth decay, infections, and even complications affecting organs such as the kidneys or heart. By scheduling regular dental check-ups, you can identify issues early and prevent them from escalating. Common signs of dental disease include bad breath, difficulty chewing, drooling, swollen or bleeding gums, and loose or discolored teeth.

If your pet shows any of these symptoms, it’s time for a professional dental evaluation. A dental procedure at Village Vets is a comprehensive process tailored to your pet’s needs. We begin with a pre-procedural assessment, including a physical exam and possibly blood tests, to ensure your pet is healthy enough for anesthesia.

Once your pet is safely under general anesthesia, our team thoroughly examines each tooth and the surrounding tissues. We use specialized dental tools to remove plaque and tartar above and below the gum line, polish the teeth to slow future plaque buildup, and address any damaged or diseased teeth through extractions or other necessary treatments. Following the procedure, most pets are ready to return home the same day.

If extractions were performed, we provide appropriate pain relief to ensure a comfortable recovery. Many pet owners notice an immediate improvement in their pet’s quality of life—enhanced appetite, renewed playfulness, and an overall increase in comfort and well-being. Regular dental cleanings, combined with at-home care such as tooth brushing and dental chews, form the cornerstone of long-term dental health.

What to Expect from Dental Treatment

When you bring your pet in for a dental procedure at Village Vets, you can expect a smooth, carefully managed experience focused on their comfort and safety. Before the procedure, we’ll perform a thorough physical exam and may recommend blood tests to confirm that anesthesia is safe for your pet.

On the day of the procedure, our team will gently administer anesthesia so your pet remains relaxed and pain-free throughout. During the dental session, we’ll meticulously inspect each tooth, remove plaque and tartar, and address any issues like infections or broken teeth. After the procedure, your pet will remain under our close observation until they’re fully awake and stable.

We’ll send you home with tailored aftercare instructions, which may include pain relief medication if extractions were done, and advice on maintaining your pet’s oral health between visits. Our goal is to provide a stress-free experience that results in lasting improvements in your pet’s quality of life. With attentive, professional care and ongoing support, we’ll help keep your companion’s smile healthy and bright.
