Junior Veterinary Surgeon – Village Vets Castleknock
Location: Village Vets Castleknock
Reports to: Lead Vet
Salary: €40,000 – €45,000 per annum DOE
We are seeking a Registered Veterinary Surgeon with 1–2 years’ clinical experience to join our friendly, skilled, and supportive team of vets, nurses, and care staff.
Castleknock Vets features advanced diagnostic equipment, separate dog and cat wards, and a quiet area for pet owners.

You’ll be working alongside Carmen Torres Puerto, our supportive and experienced Lead Vet, and Stephanie Lambert, our Head Nurse, within a friendly and professional environment.
Shift & Rota:
- 4‑day work week
- 9:00–19:30 with a 1‑hour unpaid lunch break
- Weekend coverage: 1 in 3 Saturdays in Castleknock, 1 in 12 weekends in Ashbourne
Job Purpose:
To conduct primary responsibilities as a veterinary surgeon in
accordance with the standards and values upheld by Village Vets &
the Veterinary Council of Ireland, delivering high-quality animal care,
excellent staff relationships, and outstanding customer service. You
will also assist in the efficient running of the clinic under guidance
from the Lead Vet or Regional Director.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Diagnose, treat, and care for patients to Village Vets’ high standards.
- Investigate and manage cases within the clinic before referring externally if needed.
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure proper handover of cases.
- Prescribe and dispense medications safely and maintain stock levels.
- Communicate effectively with clients, providing estimates and treatment plans.
- Provide outstanding client experiences across all communication channels.
- Promote Pet Health Plans and Pet Insurance to enhance care.
- Support the smooth running and appearance of the clinic.
- Ensure all billing and administrative tasks are completed accurately.
- Maintain VCI membership and stay up to date with CPD requirements.
- Carry out ad hoc veterinary or administrative duties as needed.
Administrative Duties:
- Complete referral letters and medical histories.
- Prepare documentation for external labs.
- Complete pet passports, vaccination records, and insurance forms.
Knowledge & Skills Required:
Essential:
- 1–2 years’ experience in small animal practice
- MVB or equivalent qualification
- Current registration with VCI
- Interest in working in a progressive small animal practice
- Ability to investigate and treat clinical cases appropriately
- Surgical skills appropriate to experience
- Strong communication, time management, and decision-making skills
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
