Oncology

Our Veterinary Oncology Service is led by Dr. Natalia Ramírez DVM GPCert(Onco) and Dr. Ruth Gill DVM GPCert(Onco), both of whom hold postgraduate certificates in Small Animal Oncology and have a strong focus on compassionate, evidence-based cancer care.

In addition to her oncology expertise, Natalia is currently undertaking further training in Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery, allowing us to offer more integrated and comprehensive treatment options for cancer patients.

Both Natalia and Ruth are available for oncology referrals and work in close collaboration with referring veterinarians to ensure continuity of care and a seamless experience for both pets and their owners.

Services

Our Ashbourne branch joined the Village Vets family in 2008 and we moved to our shiny new site in 2024, which is well equipped with modern facilities including an in-house laboratory, diagnostic equipment such as x-rays, dental x-rays and ultrasonography, four consult rooms and two surgical theatres.

Our services include:

  • Oncology Consultations & Second Opinions
Comprehensive assessments for pets with suspected or confirmed cancer, including staging, prognosis, and treatment planning. We support informed decisions through clear, compassionate communication.
  • Cancer Diagnosis
In-house cytology, fine needle aspirates (including ultrasound-guided), biopsies, radiography, and ultrasound. We also collaborate with external labs for advanced diagnostics like immunohistochemistry, PARR, and flow cytometry. Advanced imaging with CT to be available soon.
  • Treatment & Follow-Up
Treatment options include injectable and oral chemotherapy, metronomic therapy, maximum tolerated dose (MTD) chemotherapy, administered safely within our facilities, and surgical management of suitable cases. We offer ongoing monitoring with exams and diagnostics to evaluate and adjust care.
  • Palliative Care
Supportive care for patients where curative treatment isn’t possible, focusing on pain relief, symptom control, and compassionate end-of-life guidance for owners.
