Our Partner

A word from Aislinn Cullen, Partner & Vet Surgeon

Hello, I’m the Partner (owner) of Village Vets Stillorgan. I joined the practice in 2019 as a vet but have been coming here for a lot longer with my own pets; one of my earliest childhood memories is sitting in what is now our dental room waiting for my rabbit to be seen by the vetI’m really proud to be leading that same clinic now with a fantastic team that always practises the highest quality of medicine and puts patientsclients and community first. My particular areas of interest are high-risk anaesthesia and dental procedures, acute and chronic pain management (and palliative care) and skin diseases.

Growing up, our house was known on the street for the menagerie of animals I’d rescued with everything from an African Pygmy Hedgehog to budgies at some point or other. From a young age I tamed and bottle-fed stray kittens and found them homes. As a teenager I trekked over to Ashton dog pound on the LUAS and DART most Saturday mornings to walk the dogs. When I was sixteen I did work experience in Village Vets Bray (formerly Bairbre O’Malley’s Veterinary Hospital). What was supposed to be two weeks to see if I might like to be a vet turned into six years until third year of college when finally the long hours needed in the library won out. When I joined Village Vets Stillorgan in 2019 I felt I found something special with a team that really cared about each other and their patients and were always trying to push the standards of care and medicine while still having fun each day (staff dog birthday parties and team picnics for lunch were a regular occurrence). I quickly realised I’d probably stay there for the rest of my career. I was only a recent graduate but within six months I was mentoring new graduate vets myself having grown massively in confidence and skill in such a supportive environment. Educating and mentoring younger vets is something I still really enjoy and am involved in; Village Vets Stillorgan is also one of the few clinics that host UCD final year veterinary students on their GP rotation. I also designed and created VetVision, Village Vets’ new graduate programme, and Ireland’s only veterinary programme that follows the methods of medical education used to teach doctors in university. Alongside my clinical work and teaching I’ve been an integral part of developing Village Vets’ standards of care over the years creating guidelines especially around vaccination, travel medicine and anaesthesia that are used across all our practices. I’m one of the few GP veterinary surgeons who is an advanced practitioner in anaesthesia and analgesia and take referrals for high-risk anaesthesia, especially for dental procedures. I also see behavioural referral cases for pain assessment and medical work-up for an underlying cause for their issues. I’m currently studying towards a dermatology certificate and am waiting to sit exams for an emergency certificate. When the opportunity came up to become a partner at Village Vets Stillorgan I jumped at it. It was the obvious next step to become an owner of the clinic I loved so much with patients, clients and a team that I cared about and cared about me. I can still honestly say there hasn’t been a single day I dread going to work and rarely an evening I leave without having laughed at least once during the day with the team or a client. I feel very grateful to lead such a great team in the community and area I grew up in.
