Ultrasound

Our Diagnostic Imaging service is led by Toni Connell Farrell MVB PgCert (DI) and Martin O’Toole MVB GPCert (Cardio) CertAVP.

Toni Connell Farrell graduated from UCD in 2010 and completed her Postgraduate Certificate in Diagnostic Imaging in 2019. She accepts referrals for both abdominal and cardiac ultrasound. Toni performs ultrasound in dogs and cats but also has a special interest in imaging exotic species and is highly skilled in performing ultrasound scans on patients such as rabbits, birds, and other small pets.

Martin O’Toole MVB GPCert (Cardio) CertAVP brings a wealth of experience in diagnostic imaging. He undertook postgraduate studies in 2019, earning the Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (AVP) from the University of Liverpool in 2021, followed by the RCVS Certificate in Cardiorespiratory Medicine in 2022.

Martin also regularly performs fine needle aspirates (FNAs) and Tru-Cut biopsies under ultrasound guidance, offering minimally invasive diagnostic support as part of a comprehensive cardiology and imaging service.

Services

Our Ashbourne branch joined the Village Vets family in 2008 and we moved to our shiny new site in 2024, which is well equipped with modern facilities including an in-house laboratory, diagnostic equipment such as x-rays, dental x-rays and ultrasonography, four consult rooms and two surgical theatres.

We provide the following services;

  • Ultrasound

    Ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive imaging technique that uses sound waves to create detailed images of soft tissues, including the liver, kidneys, spleen, intestines, heart, and more. This diagnostic tool allows our veterinary team to accurately identify the cause of your pet’s symptoms and develop a targeted treatment plan.

    In addition to diagnostics, we also perform minimally invasive procedures under ultrasound guidance, such as fine needle aspirations and biopsies. These techniques allow for precise sampling of affected organs while minimising discomfort and recovery time for your pet.
