5 Ways to Keep Your Pet Cool & Protected This Summer
With the warm weather set to continue, we’re sharing a few simple ways to help keep pets safe and comfortable during the hotter days ahead.
Top Tips
Check that your pet's flea, tick and worm protection is up to date. As temperatures rise, parasites become more active, and pets are at greater risk of picking up fleas, ticks and worms during walks, outdoor play and everyday adventures.
Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are cooler
Check the pavement with your hand before heading out – if it's too hot for you, it's too hot for paws
Make sure fresh water and shade are always available
Never leave your pet in a parked car, even for a few minutes
Some pets, including older pets, flat-faced breeds, overweight pets, and those with underlying health conditions, can be more vulnerable to heat-related illness.
If you're concerned about your pets or notice any signs of heatstroke, such as excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, weakness, vomiting, diarrhoea, or collapse, please contact your Village Vets clinic immediately.
