Thanks to our charity day initiative, Lead Vet Roberta D’Antone recently had the opportunity to travel to remote Andean communities as part of a neutering and training campaign organised by Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS).
The mission? To provide much-needed neutering services to cats and dogs while also educating local communities on responsible pet ownership and the importance of harmonious coexistence with wildlife.
Over just four days, the team alongside 15 final-year veterinary students from the Universidad San Francisco de Quito neutered 150 pets, significantly contributing to local animal population control. The students gained valuable surgical training, while volunteers like Roberta were able to witness the real-time impact of WVS South America’s community-based efforts.
Reflecting on the experience, Roberta described it as “amazing and rewarding, supporting both local communities and future vets.” She also shared how warmly she was welcomed by the local people, and how inspired she felt by fellow international volunteers dedicated to global veterinary work.

“I’d 100% recommend anyone to join WVS on one of their projects – an amazing NGO doing vital work to promote veterinary care and education globally!”
We’re proud to support meaningful experiences like these that strengthen both professional development and global animal welfare. 💛
